Bonnett Brothers For the Win at West of the 5th Pro Rodeo
The goal is simple—end the two-year drought that has seen one of Canada’s top team-roping teams, Logan and Keely Bonnett, on the outside looking in at CFR time.
The talented Ponoka, AB duo took an early-season step in the right direction getting the win at West of the 5th Pro Rodeo in Rimbey, Alberta with a 4.7 second run that netted the brothers $1731 each and a nice assist in achieving that CFR goal for 2026. For Logan the influx of cash will move him into the top five in the Canadian standings while Keely - who has been battling a hip issue and missed some time last fall - slides up into the all-important top 12.
“We just missed it (the CFR cutoff) last year,” Logan noted, “so it’s really nice to get the ball rolling in the right direction there at Rimbey. And it’s close to home as well (thirty minutes) so that was really good too.”
The horsepower side of the family operation is also a cool story with Logan riding an eight-year-old named Wallace that he campaigned at a handful of rodeos last year while Keely was heeling on a young stallion, Cajunish. And talk about versatile. Keely’s partner, Shelby Spielman, also rode the stud (which is owned by Keely and Shelby) in the barrel racing event at Rimbey. And like her fiancé and brother-in-law to be, the four-time CFR qualifier is looking to be in Edmonton in October after a couple of years of missing CFR action; she too helped the cause at Rimbey, combining with Cajunish for a second place cheque of $1421 courtesy of a 14.91 second run.
For Logan and Keely, the task at hand will be recapturing the consistency that had them as CFR fixtures until 2024. And they’re hoping that Rimbey and the positive outcome there will be a harbinger of good things to come in 2026.
With a brief hiatus between now and the next CPRA stop, the Medicine Hat Broncs & Honky Tonks Indoor Spring Rodeo Apr 10-12, it will be back to the practice pen for all of the Bonnetts including barrel racer Colby (Logan’s wife) and younger brother Kash; made all the more convenient with an indoor arena and everyone working within close proximity.
