Helen Nowosad New Arena Record

It’s everyone in Alberta’s favourite arena, and we got to witness a new arena record this past weekend at the Canadian Barrel Horse Incentive. Helen Nowosad and Raise The Gold Bar were a 16.824 in the derby!

How is Raise The Gold Bar bred?
She is by La Jollas Gold and out of a Dr Nick Bar Mare, Sweet Fleet Bar.

Tell me about your derby season, and how would you describe her style?
It really has been a dream Derby season, Raise The Gold Bar aka Alley has won just about every where we entered. She has a super efficient style and can stop the clock. Highlights are winning the Alberta Barrel Racing Finals in August and having won all three rounds of the CBHI Derby winning the Open average and running the arena record at the Calnash.

What makes this horse so special?
Her heart and her stride. She doesn’t look like she’s going that fast but she stops the clock with grace. We bought her as a two year old and I did all the training on her so bringing her to this level of competition has been truly gratifying. She has been a gift from God to our family.

What are your future plans with this horse?
We would like to get to as many big events as we can and possibly head to the United States to run against new competition. We also plan to pick some great studs to breed her and possibly pull some embryos.

What is the best barrel racing advice you have ever been given OR what is the best piece of barrel racing advice would you give to a person?
Find 2-3 key things to think about before your run, don’t fill your head with too much or you won’t remember to think about anything lol. Let them find the turn, trust them! Allow them to turn in their own style. Make your goal to do your best. Better than you last did rather than better than your competition. Always show gratitude, very few people get to live out this dream so remember to not let hard times bring you down, there will be hard times. Always be grateful for the opportunity, the horse, and the support people are giving you. No matter how terrible things may go there are always positives to focus on.

All the best to Helen and Raise The Gold Bar with their future plans. Lipstick and Cowboy Boots cant wait to see what you accomplish!
