What is your main mounts back story; when and where you found him/her, and what was it about this horse that you knew it was destined for great things/what makes them so special?

Brittany bought Magic from her neighbor Duncan MacMillan as a started three year old. Holly had been working for Duncan that summer starting his colts for the fall horse sale and Britt liked her from day 1. Brittany really liked her and pleasantly found out she was full sister to Tricia’s gelding we had started the year before. Magic has always had a neat feel to her so Brittany had no doubt that she would be great.

Britt bred her good mare to Magics sire the same year as buying her. Cruiser was the result of that cross all throughout raising him he’s showed a lot of cow and run. I remember when Britt brought him back to BC with her on one of her trips home. We started him and a few others and even then he showed a lot of potential.

Cinch was bought as I had retired my old mare Lady from ranch work/rodeo and I needed another ready to go to work right away. From Holly I learned Duncan was selling one of his last few ranch raised horses so I called him up and went to see a man about a horse. Ended up bringing him home to now having one of my own fastmoon chic grandchildren

What's one quality your horse has that you wish you could bottle and put into every horse?
Honestly the try of these horses have is fun. I’m very fortunate to get the chance to swing a leg over these guys the heart they have is so cool.

How does it feel to have qualified to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, and what are you most excited for?  Take us back to the moment you realized you had officially qualified. What happened?
To be honest kinda surreal. When I realized I had officially made it I was preparing to pour a concrete pad at work. Basically smiled and told my crew I had qualified and so we went out for dinner after a day of hard work.

What was your most memorable run this season, and what made it memorable?
My last run at Ponoka this year was probably the most memorable. It’s the run that gave me and actual shot at making CFR. Probably 2 swings before I threw, I got some mud in my eyes and everything was pretty blurry for a jump or so, but I could feel the timing was right and I’d made it to a good shot as my vision cleared. I delivered, and got to see my action come up over the neck. Knowing I’d pulled off four solid runs after a slow start to my summer run, was a feeling that’s hard to describe. I also wasn’t planning to ride Cruiser at all this year until maybe 10 days before Ponoka. He’s honestly Brittany’s main mount. Until this year I’ve hardly ever rode him except a handful of times to team rope or breakaway. I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity to ride him. Family and your inner circle truly is everything.

What challenges did you face this year, and how did you overcome them? How do you keep confidence when things aren't going as planned, or you are in a slump?
Man the challenges a lot of mental and emotional ones there unfortunately this spring. I had to put down my first horse I bought with my own hard earned cash. He was only 15, and one of the best ranch horses I’ve ever had the privilege to own or train. I’m also a manager at a farm where we bring on a lot of summer students, so training them, balancing schedules time off, having some soft of a plan for them while I’m on the road is quite something. Thankfully Tim, Marie and Emily stepped up and helped up in a major way. I think everyone’s mental game and how they process things are all very different. For me, I like to think about successful runs and how that felt, as well as what I want to see for a start on average for whatever box setup we have. When things aren’t going my way, I try to remind myself that on the rodeo road or at work I’m living a life that many only dream of.

If you could swing a leg over another qualifier's horse, who would it be and why?
Honestly Jenna Dallyns JW horse. She hauled him in the US and Canada, and he showed up a gave her a good shot everytime. He seems like a honest partner, and really what more can you ask for. So I think he’d be pretty fun.

What is your advice for someone who wants to take a shot at making the Canadian Finals Rodeo?
Be tenacious, humble/kind and grateful for every opportunity everyone out there on the road making the miles deserves it just as much as you. So you have to keep grinding and take the good with the bad.

What goes through your mind in the alley/box before you nod?
I for the most part just think about my start I want to see on the calf I had drawn and how my horse feels is he with me.

Do you have a pre-run routine that helps you get into the right mindset?
Not really, warmup and stretch our horses. Stretch my shoulders try to make sure everything is warmed up and loose.

Who has been in your corner the most this season, and what have they done to help you get here?
My sister Brittany is major in my corner for ease we kept all rodeo horses at her house so she did all the off the road care, all the entering and a larger portion of the driving.

Kate just a bunch of support late night or early morning calls to help me stay awake driving back to work. Cheering for me every step of the way.

Do you have any rodeo superstitions
Not that I know of not to inclined to be superstitious. 

Was there ever a point where you seriously considered walking away? What kept you going?
Not that I can think of, I’m pretty stubborn. If you tell me there isn’t a way, I’ll typically find one. But my friends and family supporting me keeps me focused.
