Kylie Whiteside CFR 2025

Kylie Whiteside has qualified for her fifth Canadian Finals Rodeo, after forty rodeos and $17,778.65 won. She finished 9th in the regular season standings.

The 2022 Ladies All-Around Champion is also an accomplished barrel racer, who has previously qualified to the CFR in both events, and has competed at The Calgary Stampede. She was the first of the Whiteside sisters to qualify for the Canadian Finals Rodeo, earning her first qualification in 2018.

Whiteside competes in the breakaway roping on the 2022 Breakaway Horse of the Year, Hott For Teacher (Spots Hot x Peppys Stylish Lena), owned by Ben Bamford.

Breakaway interviews are presented by, Crown + Crow Coffee. Good things come to crows who wait. But first, coffee.

What is your main mounts back story; when and where you found him/her, and what was it about this horse that you knew it was destined for great things/what makes them so special?
The first time I rode Teacher was a few years ago at Grande Prairie rodeo. I’ll never forget the first time I rode Teacher because I was so in love with how he felt, how fast and smooth he got to the calf. He left the box and I just remembered thinking, “holy, we are at the calf I guess that means throw my rope,” but I was not thinking about anything correct because I swear my brain was still in the box. He surprised me so much! I knew after that run he was so special and I had to try to convince Ben and Bradi to let me ride him more.

What was your most memorable run this season, and what made it memorable?
My most memorable run this year would be Lethbridge because I had been struggling before that, so it felt good to get out of the slump.

What was different about your rodeo season this year compared to last year?
This year Bradi and I rode Teacher less and give Rico, Bradi’s young horse, the chance to shine. He ended up helping us both get some wins on him.

Tell readers something good that happened to you this season, other than winning or placing at a rodeo?
This year I moved into my own house and got my own barn.

What was the best restaurant you stopped at all year? Any hidden gems to mention?
I never stopped at to many places this year but I do love to stop at Starbucks anytime we can.

What is your least favourite part of being on the rodeo road, and what is your favourite?
My least favourite part would be all the hours we spend in a truck, but I think it’s all worth it because I love to rodeo.

What therapies are a must have for your horse?
I like to use all the back on track products.

How do you manage to balance life at home/work with life on the road?
I am super thankful to have the parents I have because I know that whenever I need to leave home they will have everything taken care of at home.

Who did you travel with this year?
I travel all summer with my sister Bradi.

How are you preparing for the Canadian Finals Rodeo practise wise? What is your routine like to be ready for Edmonton?
Trying to not over think things and just keep it simple and have fun dong it. Practice the same as I did all year long like it’s just another run.

If you could swing a leg over another qualifier's horse, who would it be and why?
I’d have to say Bobbi Henderson horse popcorn. She looks so honest and easy to rope on.

Are you a type A or type B breakaway roper?
I’m definitely type B.

How many breakaway horses do you currently have in your string?
I currently have no breakaway horses just a few barrel horses but I like to steal everyone else’s to practice roping on and sometimes use the young barrel horse to practice on.

I would like to thank Ben Bamford for letting me ride teacher all year long again, and thank you to my sponsors!
