Pamela Morrison is headed back to the Canadian Finals Rodeo, October 1st-4th, in Edmonton, Alberta, at Rogers Place.
She and her great mare TSFAMOUSFRENCHLASSIE (TRES MY FAME x RUASSPECIALASI) aka Dyna, entered 39 rodeos, placed at 16 and won five, to claw their way to their second CFR qualification. The duo finished seventh in the regular season with $31,694.79, after winning La Crete, Dawson Creek, Lethbridge, tying for first at Strathmore, and winning Pool A of the SMS Equipment Pro Tour Final in Armstrong, BC.
Barrel racing interviews are presented by, Endurance Equine. - Get the Endurance Edge.
What is your main mounts back story?
Dyna is an 8 year old Buckskin mare. I purchased her as a four year old.I bought her as a project to get myself back involved with horses after being sidelined from barrel racing due to a snowmobile accident. I did a lot of ground work and round pen work with her initially, then sent her out to some great trainers for ranch riding, then a barrel racing foundation. She has turned out to be a once in a lifetime rodeo horse for me, and made my biggest lifetime goal of qualifying for the Canadian Finals rodeo in Edmonton come true! I set that goal when I was just 13 years old.
What was your most memorable run this season, and what made it memorable?
My most memorable run was at Lethbridge this year. I tipped the second barrel going into it, and decided to try and kick it back up with my toe while leaving it, and it worked to win the rodeo. Also running a personal rodeo fastest time of a 17.17 on a standard pattern to win La Crete Pro Rodeo.
What was different about your rodeo season this year compared to last year?
I went on a winning streak (or heater as the press called it) and won four tour pro rodeos in a row, placed 2nd at High River, and won pool A Armstrong to win of over $20,000 in the month of August. She was on fire!
What challenges did you face this year, and how did you overcome them?
I tore my shoulder in February trying to doctor a horses wound. I couldn’t saddle horses, or sleep on my right side for the next couple months or so.
How do you keep confidence when things aren't going as planned, or you are in a slump?
I have been to rodeos long enough now that I appreciate every single win and pay check I can make, and I am very aware that things can turn very around quickly. So I try to stick with that saying that goes around the rodeo world;
“don’t allow yourself to get to high off the highs and low of the lows…. Moment of appreciation or reflection, then on to the next.”
Tell readers something good that happened to you this season, other than winning or placing at a rodeo?
This season was extra exciting as my rodeo wins led me to be interviewed for a few news articles. I also have some new sponsors who have been super fun helping my horses and I get outfitted, feeling good and looking fancy . S4 Branding Co. and Alliance Equine.
What was the best restaurant you stopped at all year? Any hidden gems to mention?
The La Crete Rodeo hospitality tent! They have the best food, and best homemade doughnuts I don’t have a restaurant answer as I don’t take a lot of time to go to sit down restaurants while on the road.
What is your least favourite part of being on the rodeo road, and what is your favourite?
My home is in BC, so I don’t get to be home much during rodeo season. The miles I travel and the road across the rocks from BC to Alberta is probably my least favourite part of rodeo. My favourite part is the bond I have with my horses, and the good people I have met along the way.
What therapies are a must have for your horse?
Performance veterinarians.
Good Farriers
Shockwave therapy for my horses and myself.
IXLR8 magnetic blankets on my horses during travel
XLR8 versa wrap lights for myself and my horses
Nebuilizing for respiratory support
Massage -Leading Edge Equine Therapy
PEMF magnetic therapy treatments
Woodys Custom saddles
How do you manage to balance life at home/work with life on the road?
I have been super fortunate and able to rodeo because my son and his girlfriend are currently living on my property, looking after my acreage and chores. My parents ranch adjoins mine and they help out a lot also.
Who did you travel with this year? Do you have a funny or heart warming story you could share about your time together, or anything you would like to share about them?
I travel mostly alone with my German Shepherd dog Cali. Julie and Vanessa Leggett and I entered some rodeos together this year also. The most memorable was the east run to Morris MB this year. It was a good time as we were able to laugh off a very very bumpy road we took from a jackpot we hit in Carnduff, Saskatchewan on our way to Morris, Manitoba.
How are you preparing for the Canadian Finals Rodeo practise wise? What is your routine like to be ready for Edmonton?
The 2026 season started as soon as the 2025 season ended, so I am continuing to go to rodeos and barrel racing events.
If your horse was an actor/actress in a movie, who would play them, or if your horse was a character from a movie, which character do they remind you of and why?
Beth Dutton- She’s smart, sassy and with a lot of attitude.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up, and what do you do now?
I wanted to be a Veterinarian. I took my first year of pre-veterinary medicine then was sidelined to be a mom and pursue rodeo, and never went back to university.
I had always helped my dad in the bush operating heavy equipment for logging. It was easy to pick up heavy equipment operating jobs between rodeos, so I ended up joining the operating Engineers Union working on highway construction jobs.
If you could swing a leg over another qualifier's horse, who would it be and why?
I would choose Bling owned by Taylor Manning. She reminds me of my mare Dyna.
How many barrel horses do you currently have in your string, tell us about them?
I have Dyna, and a six year old gelding I call Dice.
What is your advice for someone who wants to take a shot at making the Canadian Finals Rodeo?
My advice would be to find a professional barrel racer/trainer who sparks your interest to learn and take advice from. Stay committed to learning from that person to set yourself up for success. I feel too many people jump around looking for quick fix advice from many different people, instead of committing to a long term solid learning foundation.
Thank you to my family for everything they do to help out so I can be away to rodeo.
Thank you to all the performance veterinarians who are willing to reply to texts messages for advice and accommodate after hour appointments between rodeos to keep my horses healthy and happy.
A huge shout out to my rodeo friends for welcoming me to come stay with them between rodeos and always offering me great advice.
Thank you to everyone who makes time for me when I reach out for guidance, or lends me a helping hand.
And for my sponsors who have also become great friends and encouraging supporters
