2026 CFR Interviews Presented by Alliance Equine

What was your most memorable run of the season, and what made it stand out?
When I ran Bling in the top 12 round at Ponoka. I’ve never rode a horse with so much try and grit. It was pouring so hard that I could barely see until we were at the barrels, muddy, in a big pattern. (see the run here).

How have you changed as a competitor since your first CFR?
I think every year you learn something new. Whether it’s learning how to take care of your horse better, the set ups and ground or what horse to run!

How has your definition of a good season changed over the years?
Having sound, happy and healthy horses by the end of the year! To be grateful for the horses you get to run while you can.

Looking back at your season as a whole, what are you most proud of?
My horses, they continue to give me the opportunity to run at/go to places I couldn’t dream of. I got to go down south for a couple weeks. My goal one day is to be competitive down south and at the bigger rodeos.

Do you have a pre-run routine that helps you get into the right mindset?
I have my Red Bull, spend time brushing and being with the horses. I don’t like to sit and wait, I like to be moving and organized for my run. I want to be as prepared as I can be. When I feel prepared, I feel ready!

Do you prefer the training or competing side of the process more, and why?
I’m in the middle. I love both. I like trying to figure out how to make a horse be better and more broke. I like how rewarding it is when they start to put the pieces together and become more solid. I love to compete for always trying to push to be good. And then going back to see what you can fix to be faster each time.

What's one part of your horse's care program you refuse to compromise on?
Jill Vandergust equiscoping my horses. It’s amazing what it does for them. Icing their legs, nebulizing and having good vets. Having them in shaped and exercised regularly.

What bloodlines do you look for when considering prospects? Do you have a favourite?
I’ve got to ride a few Guys Casanova Cowboys and horses grand sired by Dr Nick Bar. Matlock and Ozona by Agang (Dr Nick Bar). Bling is out of a Dr Nick Bar mare. They have been very good to me. I would like to get another Blings Smooth Guy someday.  I would love to have another TGBL, Slick By Design and Tres Seis.

What's one quality your horse has that you wish you could bottle and put into every horse?
The heart and try Bling has. Shes so gritty and strong. Every time I go out there I know shes gonna try.

What goes through your mind in the alley before a run?
I try and remember 1-2 things per horse. Wether its riding two handed as long as I can, having soft hands, or checking at a barrel, etc.

Did you face any challenges this season? Tell us about them.
I’ve knocked a lot of barrels this year actually every year. I really need to learn how to keep them up. I think thats my goal for 2027. Also Ive learnt that when going through a dry spell that if you keep working and going, eventually things will turn around.

When you eventually look back on your rodeo career, what do you hope you remember most?
The horses Ive gotten to ride and the opportunities they have given me.

Who has been in your corner the most this season, and what have they done to help you get here?
My mom. Shes always trying to help me be better and figure out how to make my horses better. Shes supported me through so much.

Thank you to Shannon Buss for always checking on Bling when we arent home and taking care of her. Rayel Little for the phone calls and trying to prepare for the next race, or getting our horses working better. Rana Koopmans for all your knowledge and support. Thank you to my mom for being the backbone and keeping us all going. And to my sponsors for helping me do what I love.
