Nancy Hunter WNFR 2015

Last year the average number of rodeos attended to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo was 71. This year it was 73. One cowgirl did it in less than half.

Neola, Utah resident Nancy Hunter is headed back to Sin City after another solid season on her main man Fuzz, for the second year in a row after only running at 26 rodeos! The duo have now won Rodeo Houston three years in a row as well.

I was lucky enough to interview Nancy last year for my blog. Nancy and her husband Fred make an outstanding team, and I can’t wait to see Fuzz running at the T&M yet again. You can find last years interview here.

You won the 2015 BP Super Series Championship in Houston AGAIN for $57,150! Where did you make the other $39,535 to put you in 6th position with just 26 rodeos under your belt this season?Fuzz won money at Redding CA, Kennewick WA, Calgary, Caldwell ID, Preston ID, Spanish Fork UT and Hermiston, OR just to name a few. Fuzz had a good summer.

What are you most looking forwards to when you’re in Las Vegas this year, other than the obvious, running down the alley at the T&M?Excited for a second trip and having all my kids there watching. Fred and I have tried to analyze my runs and we hope to improve from last year. Glad Fuzz and I have this opportunity.

Do you have any rodeo superstitions?
Not really Fuzz likes structure so we follow a pretty tight routine with him.

What advice would you give to someone who would want to chase the NFR dream?
The horse is the key if you have that horse then good management is important. We rodeo our way, it fits our horse and us and it’s important to not follow the crowd but do what works for you and your horse.

What was your favorite rodeo in 2015?
Houston; it has changed our lives.

What is Fuzz’s ideal set up/arena?
Longer alleyway it takes him a stride or two to get running

Last question: What kind of saddle, pad, and bit do you use on Fuzz? Not sure of my saddle pad just one that I liked nothing fancy. We run Fuzz in a bit designed from Fred just for him. It’s called the Fuzz bit and is part of the Josey – Hunter Bit line. My saddle is a Tami Semas saddle, love her saddles!
